Atletico Madrid sign Brazilian winger Lino from Gil Vicente
Samuel Lino, a 22-year-old winger who was previously with Gil Vicente, has been officially signed by Atletico Madrid on a five-year agreement.
Last season, Diego Simeone’s team finished third in LaLiga, but for much of the season, it seemed unlikely that they would advance to the Champions League.
The Portuguese club’s Lino, who scored 26 goals in 99 games for them, has now been signed by Atletico for a rumoured sum of €5.85 million (£6.9 million).
A statement on the club’s website read: “Samuel Lino is a versatile player who can play on both wings, standing out for his speed and his great ability to face rival defenders.
“In this way, our club gets the services of a young player, with experience in European football and with a great projection.”
Lino, meanwhile, revealed the prospect of working with Simeone was a big motivation for the move, saying: “It means a lot because he is one of the best coaches in the world and one of the longest in charge.
He has a long history, and I’m grateful for the chance to work with him and have him support my development.
The winger joins Axel Witsel, who joined the club after leaving Borussia Dortmund on a free transfer, as the second player to join the Wanda Metropolitano in the off-season.
