Juventus has successfully signed free agent Di Maria

Paul Pogba is anticipated to join Angel Di Maria as Juventus’ second high-profile free transfer acquisition of the summer.

The Old Lady are renowned for their ability to sign superstars who are out of contract, and Di Maria, 34, becomes the latest after agreeing to a one-year deal in Turin.

At the end of the season, the Argentine international left Paris Saint-Germain, where he had lived for seven years.

Di Maria won five Ligue 1 titles with Les Parisiens, as well as 13 domestic cups. However, the Champions League eluded PSG and Di Maria.

In his final season in the French capital, Di Maria saw his playing time reduced.

He made just 19 Ligue 1 starts — and only 22 in all competitions — contributing a total of five goals and eight assists.

By signing for the Bianconeri on a Bosman transfer, Di Maria follows in the footsteps of Pogba, Andrea Pirlo, Aaron Ramsey, Adrien Rabiot, Sami Khedira and Dani Alves.

Di Maria is one of just four players — along with Dimitri Payet, Kylian Mbappe and Jimmy Briand — to have scored and assisted at least 50 Ligue 1 goals since records began in 2006-07.

In fact, in the last decade, only countryman Lionel Messi (174) and Thomas Muller (159) have set up more goals than Di Maria’s 131.
